Formula Student Team aus Zwickau gewinnt im Finale
For the second time round, the winners of the final of the third "EDAG Integration Excellence Award" contest were a Formula Student team from Saxony. At the end of the final, victory and the first prize of € 3,000 went to the WHZ Racing Team from the University of Zwickau. Second prize (€ 2,000) went to the Lions Racing Team from the Technical University of Braunschweig, closely followed by last year's winners, the University of Stuttgart's Green Team, who won € 1,000. Fourth place was shared by teams from the Universities of Karlsruhe and Kiel, who achieved almost identical scores.
Over the past few years, the Formula Student has established itself as a well-known international design competition for students, in which each team is required to plan, develop and construct its own racing car, and then drive this car in racing events. "The Formula Student competition calls for precisely those qualities which we, as an engineering company, need in our day-to-day project work: developing, integrating and implementing technical concepts and innovations within prescribed time limits," expounded Werner Kropsbauer, CEO of EDAG Engineering AG. "This award is our way of rewarding the dedication of the teams who take part in the Formula Student in addition to their regular student commitments."
Over 15 Formula Student teams applied for the EDAG Group award during the last few months. At the end, the best five teams were then invited to EDAG's head office in Fulda, where they were asked to present their concepts and solutions to EDAG's multi-disciplinary jury. "We were particularly interested to see how the teams integrated their technical innovations and what advantages they generated for their vehicles in the process," explained Heiko Herchet, Head of the EDAG Competence Centre for Electric Mobility and jury member. "Apart from technical requirements, further assessment criteria taken into account by the jury were project management qualities and the professionalism of the contestants' presentations."
Each team had 30 minutes in which to convince the jury of their concept. Besides appearing before the judges, the teams also had the opportunity to talk to managers from all fields of vehicle development, and to hear at first hand more about the practical side of starting out on a new career from young graduate EDAG employees. A tour of the show garage, where EDAG displays the concept cars that have been developed in the company, and test driving the latest electric-powered vehicles rounded off the programme of final day activities.
Head of Human Resources.
